Earthquake Coverage & You

Earthquakes can come when you least expect them which makes them one of the most dangerous natural disasters on the planet.

Earthquakes occur when two tectonic plates shift and all of that stored potential energy is transferred into kinetic energy and sends out a shockwave through the crust of the earth. This movement can be as little as a few centimeters, but when you remember that tectonic plates weigh upwards of 45 quintillion tons (to put that numerically, and blow your mind, that’s: 45,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons!) it’s easy to see where all that energy is coming from.

When it comes to the protection of your home, it’s important to remember that earthquakes are not covered by the standard home insurance policy. If you live in or near an earthquake zone, being prepared will never hurt you.

What happens if the earthquake is a magnitude 7 or higher, and completely destroys your home? Surely you’ll be covered, but repair and rebuilding is not going to happen overnight. Do you just find your bed under the rubble and sleep under the stars? No! Home living expenses may be covered under your policy. Meaning, that if the earthquake makes your place uninhabitable, your insurance will put you in a hotel and pay for meals that you have to purchase otherwise since you don’t have access to your home—with some limitations, of course; you shouldn’t expect to purchase $1,000 in groceries and have them be paid for you. That’s a bit excessive.

Our new earthquake product allow you to put a deductible as low as 5 percent, and select how much coverage you want, instead of it being a standard, inflexible policy you’ll come across through other agencies.

Should an earthquake strike, it’s best to be prepared as best as possible. The best way to do this is by contacting Lou Aggetta Insurance Services in Pleasant Hill, California.
