Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

The holidays are a time to be jolly, forgiving, and humble, but holiday shopping is everything but.

The holidays are a time to deck the halls with boughs of holly. Many of us will get our holiday shopping done during December (and some may even wait until the 24th of December–again), and thieves and criminals know this. That is why it’s important that you take the necessary precautions during your holiday shopping to prevent theft. If you’re unsure of what to do, here are a few trusted holiday shopping safety tips.

Holiday Shopping Safety Tips

Your Purse/Wallet
Your bag should be zipped and closed at all times, only to be opened when you are about to pay at the cash register. You risk exposing your valuables like your phone, makeup, and anything you carry that has value, to thieves who may be expert pickpockets.

Same goes for your wallet, make sure it is in your front pocket or, if you have khakis, in your back pocket with the button securely fastened.

Your Ca$h and Credit Card$
Cash:
If paying with your debit or credit cards is okay with you, we suggest leaving your cash at home. If you must pay with cash, it’s best to keep it in your purse or wallet at all times until you get to the cash register.

Cards: Only take the cards you are going to use. And–again–only take out your cards when you are about to pay at the register.

Your Parking Choice & Mall Buddy
Walking back to your car with both hands too preoccupied from carrying a multitude of shopping bags makes you the perfect target for a robbery. Make sure you park in a well-lit area where surveillance will capture the perpetrator.

You should never go to the store alone. Having a friend makes you much less of a target.

When your valuables and your credit identity need protection, a good homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy can do the trick. For more information about enjoying a safe and insured holiday, contact Lou Aggetta Insurance Services in Pleasant Hill, California today.
